Like so many mental health conditions, depression shows up differently for all of us, although many of the symptoms and themes are universally shared.
These are the types of thoughts that you may be experiencing:
- I am worthless and can’t do anything about it.
- I feel guilty for....
- I don't like who I am these days.
- I can’t stop crying, which makes me want to stay away from others.
- I feel gut-wrenching pain, but no one understands.
- My life and the world around me are dark. I hate it, but I don't know how to change it.
These are behavioral changes that you may be experiencing:
- Sleeping a lot more or a lot less than usual
- Significant weight gain or weight loss or change in appetite
- Difficulty concentrating on things
- A loss of pleasure in activities and things that you usually enjoy (i.e. favorite foods, hobbies, being with friends).
